Olmsted Falls dominates Southwestern Conference double dual

EATON TWP. — If the first Southwestern Conference double-dual of the season means anything, it appears Midview and Olmsted Falls could be on a collision course for league supremacy.

The Middies and the defending champion Bulldogs began their SWC dual meet seasons with dominating victories over North Ridgeville and North Olmsted on Thursday at Kubuski Gymnasium. Midview defeated North Olmsted 75-6 and North Ridgeville 78-0, while Olmsted Falls beat the Rangers 67-6 and the Eagles 74-3.

The Bulldogs suffered only two losses Thursday — a 3-2 loss to Kelly and a pin in 1:08 by North Ridgeville’s Alex Carpenter at 220. Carpenter’s pin was the Rangers’ lone win of the night.

Josh Jaeckin (145) and Noah Broski (160) each had two pins to lead Olmsted Falls (2-0 SWC). Nic Kuntz (113) had a pin and a major decision, while Michael Shaw (106), Alex Kho (120) and Connor Atkins (170) each had a pin and a tech. fall for the Bulldogs.

“Our conference has always been one of our big goals, so to come out and wrestle like this is a great start for us,” Olmsted Falls coach Bryce Burkhard said. “That’s always our goal when we wrestle conference matches — we want to make statements and let everyone know that we’re not going away.

“I know a lot of people are starting to think some other teams are ahead of us and have given up on us, and we want to show that we’re not going anywhere. I think we showed that tonight, and I couldn’t be prouder of the guys.”
